Derek Carr: 3 reasons the Raiders QB will have an MVP-caliber 2022 season

Renewed confidence

As is the case with most players, confidence is key. For Carr, this is especially true. Moreso than other quarterbacks, it is usually pretty obvious when he doesn’t trust his receivers. This was evident at times with Amari Cooper, Henry Ruggs, and Desean Jackson. Oftentimes Carr will just not target receivers he doesn’t trust.

Luckily for him, the Raiders have done everything possible to surround him with receivers he trusts. The best example of this of course is the aforementioned Devante Adams. Off-season workout partners and college teammates, their rapport is already strong. Adams now plays alongside elite weapons in Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller.

Fresh off a season where he recorded 100+ catches and over 1,000 receiving yards, Renfrow is perhaps the league’s best slot receiver. For Waller, his 2021 was marred by injuries. Alas, he is still a mismatch nightmare and one of the league’s best tight ends who is only a few years removed from a 100+ catch, 1,000+ yard season of his own.

This collection of talent not only is one of the league’s best but is full of players who already have Carr’s trust. In 2022, for the first time in a few seasons, there will be no acclimation period. The Raiders offense is ready to hit the ground running, and Carr will be steering the ship.
