Raiders: 3 reasons why Las Vegas will win the AFC West in 2022
Derek Carr has Help
Derek Carr has been the leader, quarterback, and also face of this franchise for years now. This season will be his ninth in charge of the Raiders offense.
During a tenure that has seen Carr lead this offense despite numerous changes in personnel and roster, he continues to be the voice of this franchise and is staunch in his commitment to the franchise. The same cannot be said for a team that has seen Carr go through coaches and players like it is going out of style.
Carr will now be going on his 6th NFL head coach. Imagine how many playbooks Carr has had to digest on what seems like almost a year-by-year basis at this point.
He has also dealt with a revolving door of talent at receiver, and his offensive line overall has been pretty abysmal as well. Saying all of this truly makes you wonder why Carr decides to continue to front this franchise, especially with the criticism from RaiderNation at every corner as he tries to navigate a ship with little to no support.
Adding Davante Adams not only shows that the new regime and franchise are completely sold on Carr to continue leading this franchise, but it also gives him not only his former college teammate and friend in Adams but a true number one receiver. Carr has had some dependable targets over the years, and returning targets in receiver Hunter Renfrow and tight end Darren Waller have been Pro Bowlers for a reason, but Carr has never had anything remotely close to the talent of Adams on offense.
We are not particularly sure what the Raiders will do to beef up a disappointing offensive line from a season ago, and the hope is that it can add some much needed reliable protection for Carr, but just adding Adams alone makes this offense dangerous, and Carr finally has a superstar at the wide receiver position.
Carr to Adams is something everyone should get used to hearing, and will also be a key reason the Raiders will win the AFC West.
