Raiders: Why Jermaine Eluemunor might be the answer at right tackle

No. 2: Keeping Eluemunor at RT benefits Alex Leatherwood

Reaching on Leatherwood in last year’s NFL draft will forever be seen as one of the biggest blunders of the Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock regime. A natural NFL guard that was forced to play right tackle at the pro level backfired quickly.

However, once Leatherwood was moved inside, he was able to salvage his rookie campaign and ended the season with some measure of promise despite consistently committing ill-timed penalties.

No one’s sure what McDaniels is looking to do with Leatherwood, though he made it clear he’s excited about coaching him after saying as much during the combine. Eluemunor isn’t the “flashiest” name, and we can all hear the collective groan from Raider Nation when hearing that Brandon Parker might indeed be back this coming season.

Be that as it may, a platoon of Eluemunor and Parker seems to be the logical way to go. It would allow Leatherwood to settle into his role and excel as a guard.

If nothing else, Eluemunor also brings versatility as he can be plugged into any of the interior roles save for center as a spot starter, and this is valuable considering the injuries that took place in 2021. Although he did lose the starting job twice in New England, his familiarity with the Raiders’ new offense will make him a low-cost option with decent upside.
