Davante Adams took to the microphone in front of the media for the first time as a member of the Las Vegas Raiders. Here’s what you need to know.
For the first time since the trade that sent All-Pro Davante Adams to Las Vegas, the superstar wideout addressed the media as a member of the Raiders, and he couldn’t have been more impressive. Adams showed he knows a thing or two about the history of the Silver and Black, and stated his admiration of a few current Raiders.
It seemed that whatever was asked, the receiver had the perfect answer for.
As you can expect, the fans and media alike were anxious to talk to the stud wideout about the trade itself. Shockingly, Adams explains there were no inner-conversations with him and the Packers, and he found out he was traded the same way everyone else did; Through social media. Although he states seeing the news was pleasant, he also describes it as a surprise.
The new Raider dives a little deeper into the trade process, letting us know the talks between Carr and himself about playing together were simply friends chatting. Although both did love the thought of it, neither thought too hard on it, as they both had their own situations to take care of.
When both the Packers and Raiders seasons came to an, it began to appear realistic, and the two began treating it as such. For Adams, the idea was always extremely appealing, for reasons other than his bestfriend, Derek Carr. The All-Pro grew up a fan of the Raiders, being photographed wearing a Charles Woodson jersey in the third grade.
Adams also states he had a Tim Brown jersey growing up, which he wore ’til the numbers came off.
One thing that stuck out to him was the Raiders’ facility, stating everything in the building is on “a whole other level”. Davante wasn’t only complimentary of the Raiders, though; He gave the entire division their due, claiming there’s no other division that matches the AFC West’s talent.
"“This is the best division in football right now”."
When it comes to the reactions of Raider Nation, Adams has been watching carefully. He’s seen the celebrations of Raider Nation, and how fans talk about him helping Hunter Renfrow grow. As Adams puts it, though, Renfrow has enough skill to be the one that teaches him a few things.
Raiders have dynamic dup in Renfrow and Adams
It made sense the wideout had a lot of good to say about Renfrow, seeing as he posted a picture watching no.13’s film on his Instagram the night before. The Pro Bowl receiver for the Raiders in ’21 was on Adams’ mind, and he let everyone know.
Of course, it wasn’t only Renfrow who he had compliments about. He made sure to give his best buddy Derek some flowers, too. Davante sang praises of Carr, calling him an “amazing arm talent”, who’s confidence is through the roof – As it should be. With Waller and Renfrow in the offense as well, Adams says it perfectly; “Pick your poison. It will be anyone’s day”.
Being a Raider, as Davante Adams tells it, is like being a child in a candy shop; “To be a place where they’re happy to have you. You’re a kid in a candy store”.
The former Packer wasn’t shy about answering what motivates him, either, starting back when he was drafted. As he recalls, there were cameras set up all around his house, as both him and the NFL believed he was destined to sail off as a first-round draftee.
As it turns out, that didn’t happen. As “embarrassing” as Adams claims it was, he also used it to start a fire. When day-two came around, him and his family wore all black, to represent the funeral of every team that passed on him the previous day. With 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns across eight-years, It’s fair to say there are some regrets from those teams.
Another thing that motives him is knowing there are no excuses. Even when it comes to being hurt, he explains that’s just an excuse in the eyes of the media. Adams knows at the end of the day, there is only one thing that must get done: Producing on the field. Looking at his extremely luxurious career, it’s clear he means that, too.
Tyrann Mathieu would be a perfect for the Raiders defense
After years on the backend of the Chiefs defense, Tyrann Mathieu is now a free agent. Could he jump to the dark side to help the Raiders?
Welcome to Raider Nation, Davante.
