Grading the first half of offensive players brought in this free agency.

Mack Hollins, WR

Grade: B

  • Contract: 1y, $2m

In addition to needing a legitimate wide-receiver no.1 on the outside, the Las Vegas Raiders also lacked receiver depth in general.

Mack Hollins, who previously played in Miami, brings big-play ability deep in the receiving corps. This is yet another thing Vegas lacked in the latter half of last season, as no one could create big plays. Mack Hollins has a clear history of doing that, with perhaps no play more memorable than the haunting catch he had against the Raiders, allowing Miami to edge out a last-second victory.

There’s no negative about this trade, however, there are a ton of potential positives. This is the definition of low-risk high reward, which you always love to see. The reason why the grade isn’t higher is that doing so implies there’s almost a guarantee the signing will pay dividends. While I’m not comfortable committing to that, I am comfortable saying there truly is no risk here.

If Hollins exceeds expectations, you get one of the best deals in free agency. On the flip side, if he bombs, it isn’t a big deal; You only spent $2m on a one-year contract.
