Raiders 7-round 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Las Vegas selects a QB
Round 5: Pick 165
- Kaleb Eleby: Western Michigan – QB
Let’s get this straight first and foremost. The Raiders are heavily invested in quarterback Derek Carr. However, the resources behind Carr at this moment are rather thin,
Adding veteran quarterback Garrett Gilbert has been the biggest move the Raiders have made in terms of having something behind Derek Carr, which is a significant downgrade compared to backup Marcus Mariota who departs after two seasons to take over the quarterback position in Atlanta.
Eleby has been great throughout the last two seasons at Western Michigan and could factor into being a dangerous backup option for the Raiders. Throwing for 41 touchdowns with only eight interceptions over the last two seasons, Eleby may be too good for the Raiders to pass up at this point in the draft.
He is coming from a smaller university against not such stiff competition, and he is not the biggest quarterback standing at a shade over 6’1, but he possesses a solid arm and great decision making.
As it stands at the moment, the Raiders need a better option to backup Carr, and if Eleby is here at pick 165, the Raiders could do much worse than selecting a solid backup option for Carr.
