After losing many of the defensive tackles that were on the roster in 2021, the Raiders could still use some help at the position. Could a former All-Pro be the answer?
In the 2021 off-season, the Raiders made it a point to address the defensive tackle position. By going out and acquiring players such as Quinton Jefferson, Soloman Thomas, and Darius Philon, the Raiders had a defensive interior that was much improved from years past.
However, most of these players were signed to one-year deals.
As such, none of them are likely to be on the team in 2022. In the case of Jefferson, he signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Similarly, Thomas signed a contract with the New York Jets that will reunite him with his old defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh.
Nose tackle and run stuffer Johnathan Hankins is a free agent as well and it appears as if they replaced him with Vernon Butler. Darius Philon is also a free agent and is recovering from injury.
