2022 NFL Draft: 2 versatile LBs the Raiders should target on Day 2
Raiders LB Option No. 2 – Sam Williams, Ole Miss
Sam Williams of Ole Miss is currently the 73rd ranked prospect on the Draft Network’s Big Board, and he’d be an intriguing prospect if he falls to the Raiders. Yes, he was listed as a defensive lineman at the combine, but his versatility is what makes him exceptionally valuable to Graham’s defense if he was the pick.
Williams is perfect for an NFL hybrid scheme; his true potential will be unlocked as an outside linebacker. Once there, the Raiders (or wherever he lands) can make use of his remarkable pass-rushing abilities. Last season, Pro Football Focus graded him at 90.2 in that department. Over the last two years in college, Williams accumulated 16.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss. Also of note, he consistently caused turnovers, totaling five forced fumbles in those two years, which was 18th in the SEC for career totals since 2005.
Williams will flourish by dropping back and, with his explosive first step, will be able to get after quarterbacks right out of the gate in the NFL. So, while not a traditional linebacker prospect, Williams would offer much more in a modern, hybrid defense.
