Raiders bolster defense in latest 7-Round Mock Draft
We can all hear the collective groan from Raider Nation whenever they see a quarterback being taken in a mock draft. However, unlike in years past, this is a new regime that’s taken over, and they aren’t opposed to drafting a signal-caller. Neither Nick Mullens nor Garrett Gilbert are long-term solutions.
Yes, Derek Carr is unlikely to go anywhere (though he remains without an extension beyond 2022), but picking up Jack Coan can give Josh McDaniels a project.
PFF grades Coan at 82.1 in the passing department, and the quarterback has notable arm strength. He can throw it deep with relative ease, but he’s more than that. Coan can also get the ball into tight spaces and his awareness is solid.
With time, he could develop into Carr’s backup, and from there, he’ll have an opportunity to see playing time one day.
