Raiders Day 3 Wide Receiver Option No. 3 – Isaiah Weston, Northern Iowa

A common trend you’ll see with several of these Day 3 options is their measured speed, with many of them underperforming in the combine. Not everyone is going to score impressive times, but as any football fan who truly knows the game will tell you, it’s about what you see on film and not a 40-yard dash. Isaiah Weston is another example with his 4.42 time.

In college, Weston was a reliable scoring option who consistently showed explosiveness in the open field. If there’s one thing that Weston can do: it’s get open. Once a quarterback finds him, all he needs to do is put it in his area, and with Weston’s catch radius, he’ll come down with it.

He’ll definitely need to work on his release once he’s in the NFL or defensive backs will be able to crowd him and slow him down, thereby neutralizing him.

His potential to become an option in vertical play calling merits an opportunity. Perhaps the Raiders can let him battle in camp and stash him on the practice squad as he transitions.
