Perhaps the biggest trade of the off-season, the Broncos have finally found their franchise quarterback. After years of toiling in obscurity, Denver made a huge move to acquire former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. A nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, Wilson fits the part of a franchise quarterback.

In 2021, Wilson had possibly the worst season of his career. Missing three games due to injury, he struggled at various points throughout the season en route to 3,113 passing yards and 25 touchdown passes.

While Wilson is easily the best quarterback that Denver has had since Peyton Manning, there is work to be done with his game. Of course, he will be playing under first-time head coach and play-caller Nathaniel Hackett who will likely take time to gel together. The supporting cast around him is also arguably worse than the one he had in Seattle.

The biggest thing Wilson can do to prevent his regression is run the offense that Hackett gives him. However, he has never been a quarterback who does a good job playing within the structure. He turns every offense he is in into a “Russell Wilson offense” which, at times, is not a very successful one.

The potential is there for a wildly successful offense, but it may come with growing pains as Wilson reaches the end of his career.
