Ranking every starting quarterback in the NFL after 2022 Free Agency
Although it seems as if the controversy around Kyler Murray never ends, neither do the explosive plays. After winning Rookie of the Year in 2019, he made the Pro Bowl in both 2020 and 2021. Despite rumors of him being unhappy in Arizona after their playoff exit, Murray is still firmly expected to be their franchise quarterback for the next several years.
As he and head coach Kliff Kingsbury continue to grow together, the numbers have continued to improve. Playing in fourteen games in 2021, Murray threw for 3,787 yards and 24 touchdowns while throwing just ten interceptions. In addition, his game-changing ability on the ground was on full display with over 400 yards rushing and another five touchdowns. While the numbers on the ground were significantly less than what he posted in 2020, he appeared to be much more focused on his development as a passer.
After an embarrassing showing in the playoff against the eventual champion Rams, Murray and Kingsbury will have work to do going forward. Luckily for them, Murray’s raw talent will take them far. With star-wideout Deandre Hopkins expected to be healthy again next season, Arizona and Murray should take more steps forward as he becomes one of the best QBs in the NFL.
