Raiders: 3 reasons the Derek Carr contract extension makes sense
3. He is the best quarterback in franchise history
While it may feel like hyperbole, Derek Carr is the best quarterback in the Raiders’ history. A lowly second-round pick back in 2014, he is now the Raiders’ all-time leader in passing yards with 31,700. Second place on that list is Ken Stabler with 19,078. He is also the all-time leader in passing touchdowns with 193, 43 more than Stabler in second place.
All of these numbers will increase in the coming years as well.
When Derek Carr eventually retires, he will have the passing yards and touchdown records at an untouchable spot. What he will need to do more of, however, is win. With a 57-70 record in his starts, he has not always been put in a great position to succeed.
Furthermore, he is a Raider in every sense of the word. The face of Las Vegas sports, Carr has reiterated many times that he will not play for any team but the Raiders. After signing, his second contract extension with the team, Carr has proven to be a man of his word. With a deep playoff run now the expectation in Las Vegas, the Raiders are in good hands with Derek Carr leading the way.
