Raiders: 3 reasons the Derek Carr contract extension makes sense

2. The offense is loaded

Not only does Derek Carr give the Raiders good quarterback play, but he also is a huge part of the reason they were able to add Davante Adams. Best friends since college, Carr and Adams dominated at Fresno State University. Both selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Adams would go on to become the NFL’s best wide receiver with the Green Bay Packers.

However, Carr and Adams never stopped communicating and working out together. While rumors began to swirl that the two would like to play together again, Carr began to recruit the wideout to Vegas. Eventually, it worked as the Raiders traded a first and second-round pick for the receiver to reunite the duo.

Now, not only do the Raiders have the best wide receiver in the NFL who already has a connection with Carr, but they also have two of the league’s best weapons at slot receiver and tight end. In the slot, Hunter Renfrow returns after being Carr’s favorite target in 2021. After recording his first 1,000-yard season, he could very well do so again in 2022 as defenses can no longer double cover him.

At tight end, Darren Waller could have the best season of his career in 2022. One of the best tight ends in the NFL, he is a true match-up nightmare who can no longer be double covered due to the presence of Hunter Renfrow and Davante Adams. With all of these players in tow, Carr could be in for an MVP caliber season.
