Raiders: 4 parties that benefit the most from the Derek Carr extension

The Organization

The second component that benefits from the Carr extension is the Raiders organization itself. For obvious reasons, of course this now means that the team is shored up at the most important position for the next few years.

Now it’s about continuing to build around Derek so that he has everything he needs to not just be a solid statistical quarterback, but now compete for a title.

But I think something that is going kind of under-the-radar here for the Raiders is the fact that for the first time in a while, they actually have some direction. They gave a ten-year contract to a guy who had been in television the past decade on a whim………hoping to re-strike gold……….resurrect the career of a past great. It was more of a hopeful move than a “smart” one, in hindsight of course.

Now they have brought in someone who is hungry for redemption and a second chance at head coaching in Josh McDaniels. And he wants Derek Carr to be his quarterback- something the previous regime was on the fence about.

The new front office wants the head coach and quarterback, the head coach wants the quarterback and front office, and the quarterback seemingly wants the front office and head coach. Everybody wants each other here for the first time in quite a few years. Locking up Carr as its quarterback puts this organization in sync and gives it a strong direction for the next few seasons.
