Raiders: Has Josh Jacobs been better than expected through Year 3?
What will be expected from him going forward
Heading into Year 4, there is a lot of pressure on Jacobs, as he looks to earn another contract with the team, and he will once again be the feature back. The Raiders also return Drake for Year 2, while bolstering the running back room in a big way this offseason, adding Jakob Johnson as the new fullback, and two new running backs.
Brandon Bolden comes over from New England like Johnson, and both have a history with new head coach Josh McDaniels. For insurance, Las Vegas also added Ameer Abdullah, who has had some solid moments at the NFL level as well, making this one of the deeper running back rooms in football in 2022.
Still, this is Jacobs’s show, and as we saw in New England, McDaniels relies heavily on the running game, as well as utilizing backs in the passing game. He is going to be expected to get back to that 1,000-yard rushing mark, while also continuing to show himself to be a real threat out of the backfield in this brand new offensive scheme.
