Raiders: Has Josh Jacobs been better than expected through Year 3?
Has he been better than expected?
Through three years, Jacobs has averaged over 1,000 yards a season, has found the end zone nearly 30 times on the ground, and emerged as a legitimate receiving option in Year 3. That is the kind of production you would take from any running back taken over the last three seasons, and he has also proven to be a tough player to take down.
Keeping him healthy has been the issue through his first three seasons, but when you really look at it, he has only missed a total of six games so far. When you consider his style of running, and the fact that the Raiders have been downright bad up front along the offensive line, is there really much more you could have asked from him?
In short, Jacobs has been better than advertised, and while it is considered taboo to take a running back in the first round, he has been outstanding when healthy for the Raiders. A new offensive scheme could do him well in 2022, and with a bunch of talent behind him on the depth chart, he should stay fresh enough to be one of the best running backs in the NFL.
