Raiders: Darren Waller talks new additions, Derek Carr, and ’21 season

Raiders star TE speaks to the team’s new additions

After a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the wildcard, Raiders’ owner Mark Davis found it best to move in a new direction. That new direction was head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, in an attempt to bring the “Patriots’ way” to Las Vegas.

With this new regime came an overhaul to the offense. Back-to-back All-Pro wideout Davante Adams was added, along with Mack Hollins and Demarcus Robinson. A few former Patriots were also picked along the way, including Brandon Bolden and Jakob Johnson.

Waller took the time to give his thoughts on the new offense, as well as McDaniels’ glorious history with tight ends.

“I’m very excited about the way that coach McDaniels is going to challenge me and the rest of the tight end room”, the ’20 Pro Bowler stated. The know-how to excel at every level on the field intrigued Waller the most, and for a good reason.

Since McDaniels’ second stint as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator began in 2012, only three years have gone by where a New England tight end hasn’t recorded at least 600 yards, with Gronk reaching 592 yards in seven contests during one of the three seasons.

When it comes to the Raiders’ new offense, the no.1 thing in Waller’s eyes is building chemistry.

"“We have so many weapons now. How do we use them? How do we get people involved? How do we create a rhythm within our offense?”"

Thanks to all the new additions, Waller feels the Raiders have won the off=season. On paper, it certainly looks like Las Vegas is suffering from success offensively; Now, it’s time to translate that onto the field.
