Bold Prediction No. 2 – Raiders will select a cornerback on Day 2
Earlier in the offseason, there was a case being made for the Raiders to pick up a cornerback in this year’s draft. Ziegler made sure to address that concern when he acquired Rock Ya-Sin via trade, but the depth at the position isn’t fireproof. The team moved on from Casey Hayward after a tremendous 2021 season, but he wasn’t going to be a fit with Patrick Graham’s defensive scheme.
As it stands, the Raiders are counting on Trayvon Mullen regaining form and becoming the top corner. In the nickel, Nate Hobbs has emerged as a future star, but Las Vegas can add another potential starter in Marcus Jones from Houston.
If Jones is available by the time that the Raiders choose, he’d be a steal. He’s one of the most versatile players available because he’d make a huge difference on special teams and be a great cornerback, potentially. Despite concerns regarding his size (five-foot-eight, 185 lbs.), Jones makes up for it with something you can’t coach: speed. I think some in Raider Nation will be surprised if the team ends up going with corner on Day 2.
