Raiders 2022 NFL Draft: 5 athletic gems to find on Day 3

Damarri Mathis (RAS Score:9.72)

Consensus RK #145

In the 2021 draft, the Raiders selected Nate Hobbs in the fifth round, and he went on to be one of the better players on the defense. And in 2022, there is a very similar player who could be available for the Raiders in the fourth or fifth round.

Pittsburgh’s Damarri Mathis is someone the Raiders have already met with during the pre-draft process and has almost identical height/weight measurables to Hobbs. Both are 5’11, and around 190 pounds and both play a physical brand of football that will excite any coach.

Mathis is highly explosive with a 43″ vertical and an 11″ broad jump. Combined with a 4.39 40-yard dash, he is a very intriguing late-round take.

He can be overly physical, which leads to some grabbing in man coverage and his length is not ideal. But, the athletic traits are all there for him to be a solid contributor and possibly more at the next level.

Then when you consider that the Raiders have already reached out to Mathis, they see something as well.
