Las Vegas Raiders 2022 Draft grades: The Best and the Worst
Round 5, Pick 144, DT, Matthew Butler Tennessee
The Raiders chose one of the top players available with this pick in Matthew Butler. Butler is 6’4 297 and unlike Farrell, he is more of a three-technique tackle than a nose tackle.
Similar to Farrell, however, he is probably not quick enough to provide a pass rush up the middle. The Raiders are going to need a pass rusher coming up the middle with Chandler Jones and Maxx Crosby coming off the edge.
The good news is he and Farrell should be able to play to their strengths while improving their pass rush under the direction of Graham. This was the first real shocking pick of the draft, as the Raiders had already gone defensive tackle with the selection of Farrell, but Butler is an elite athlete who can be a real asset at the next level.
