Raiders: Biggest surprises from the 2022 NFL Draft

Double-dip at DT and RB

After picking only once in the first two days of the draft, the Las Vegas Raiders were finally involved on Saturday in a big way, starting with their first pick at No. 126 overall. Las Vegas decided to trade up to No. 122 with the Minnesota Vikings, and with that selection, they picked Zamir White from Georgia.

That pick was a bit of a shocker considering how much talent the Raiders have at running back, but they did just decline the fifth-year option on Josh Jacobs. An even bigger shocker came later on in the draft, where the team used their final pick on another running back, selecting UCLA’s Brittain Brown.

The third selection for the Raiders was a defensive tackle in Neil Farrell Jr. from LSU, again, not a big position of need, but a solid player overall. The shocker came the next pick, when the Raiders went defensive tackle once again, picking Matthew Butler from Tennessee.

For a team with needs along the offensive line and on the second and third levels of their defense, going RB and DT with four of their six picks was quite surprising.
