Las Vegas Raiders 2022 NFL Draft: 3 things we learned

The new front office loves running backs

Heading into the 2022 NFL Draft, most would have assumed that the running back position was set. Sporting one of the best duos in the NFL with Josh Jacobs and Kenyan Drake, the Raiders also added both Brandon Bolden and Ameer Abdullah to the roster in the off-season. This is in addition to the two fullbacks on the roster, Sutton Smith and Jakob Johnson.

Then came the draft where they selected not just one, but two more running backs. The first came in the fourth round when they took Georgia’s, Zamir White. A player that some believe could be in line for starter duties if they elect not to re-sign Josh Jacobs at the end of the season, he is an interesting selection. Then at the end of the seventh, they drafted UCLA’s, Brittain Brown. Likely a special teamer, he is now the seventh running back on the roster.

While it is never a good thing to spend big money on an RB, it is not necessarily bad to stockpile them like the Raiders have. Of course, both Ziegler and McDaniels are former New England Patriots and they have a similar philosophy.

In fact, they also drafted two running backs this year, despite having a well-rounded group at the position. Often an injury-prone position, the Raiders will not be in a situation where they don’t have ball carriers in 2022.
