Las Vegas Raiders make moves within the QB room

When it comes to quarterbacks, not many teams made more moves around the position than the Raiders. Not only did Las Vegas hand their franchise quarterback a three-year, $121.5M extension, but they also grabbed two quarterbacks in free agency, Garrett Gilbert and Nick Mullens.

The team wasn’t done making changes to the position group despite the abovementioned moves.

Although Josh McDaniels parted with the Patriots this year, it seemed he wasn’t ready to part with one particular quarterback on New England’s roster: Jarrett Stidham. On Thursday, it was announced Las Vegas traded for Stidham, reuniting him with the new Raider’s head coach.

Stidham was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft, appearing in 8 games as a New England Patriot. The former Auburn quarterback has completed exactly 50% of his pass attempts in his professional career, with 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

There’s no real way to sugarcoat it – The numbers aren’t good. However, there are positives. Like Gilbert, Stidham is familiar with McDaniels offense, which Raider running back Brandon Bolden refers to as, “not the easiest offense to learn, but once you get it, you can’t forget it”. The familiarity of Stidham with the Raiders new system should be a good bridge for Carr.

In a corresponding move to the trade, Garrett Gilbert has been released.
