While Derek Carr will be the QB1 for the Las Vegas Raiders once again, questions are surrounding who will back him up in 2022.

One thing is very clear for the Las Vegas Raiders heading into the 2022 season… Derek Carr is without a doubt the starting quarterback.

After what has seemed like years and years of rumor fodder from fans and the media alike about the status and availability of Derek Carr; the Raiders awarded their long-time starting quarterback with a lucrative new contract this offseason.

Now, what lies behind Derek Carr on the depth chart? Well, that is possibly a bit murky.

General manager Dave Ziegler went out and traded for a familiar face in quarterback Jarret Stidham. The 25-year-old quarterback is very familiar with Ziegler and Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, as both were working for the Patriots franchise for the entirety of Stidham’s career (with McDaniels being his offensive coordinator).

Stidham was brought in clearly to backup Carr and provides no challenge in terms of competition. The 2019 fourth-round draft choice has only thrown 48 passes in three seasons, and was a third-stringer last season in New England, while not seeing the field at all.

So this begs the question? Are the Raiders still in need of a backup quarterback?
