Raiders: Would Colin Kaepernick be the QB2 in 2022?

Is Kaepernick a business decision?

At 34-years-old and almost six years out of the league at that, maybe Kaepernick is well beyond deserving a shot at a backup position. The Raiders bringing him in for a workout might actually play more into marketing and generating revenue.

Nike awarded Kaepernick with a sponsorship deal even though he no longer played, and was able to generate more than $6-billion-dollars in revenue. This could be the thinking of Raiders owner Al Davis and the league in itself.

We have to remember this league is a business – Sports is a business. So what better way for a franchise in Las Vegas (the gambling capital of the world), to roll the dice and bring in someone of Kaepernick’s status.

The workout alone generates tons of buzz and news for the franchise. Will he be signed or brought in to compete for the backup position? It is a weird and confusing thing to try and figure out. But when looking at the chances he is signed, it makes sense for Mark Davis and his pockets.

In fact, it is a low-risk high-reward situation for Davis. Kaepernick will be a backup at best, and when it comes to quarterbacks, they do not rotate. Kaepernick at most would see the field on maybe 2%-3% of the Raiders plays.

Whatever your feelings may be on Colin Kaepernick, do not be surprised to see him gain a job sooner rather than later. Money always talks.
