Ranking the Raiders’ top-5 Quarterbacks in franchise history

5. player. 28. . . . Daryle Lamonica

The Raiders quarterback from 1967 to 1974, Lamonica was critical to helping develop the modern-day NFL offense. Nicknamed “The Mad Bomber”, Lamonica was known for his willingness and ability to stretch the field at a time when the game was still developing. Al Davis has a quote that reads “They said you had to take what the defense gave you. No, we are going to take what we want.”

Lamonica personified this attitude.

On the field, Lamonica’s team experienced much success as well. With a 62-16-6 record under his watch, the Raiders were one of the NFL’s premier teams. They proved this by playing in the league’s second Super Bowl. While they would lose to the Packers, the world was put on notice.

In eight years with Oakland, Lamonica posted 16,655 passing yards and 148 touchdown passes, good enough for fourth and third in Raiders history. In addition, he was also a five-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time All-Pro selection.

A legendary figure in Raiders history, he was one of the most feared quarterbacks of his generation. So while the numbers may not be gaudy compared to the current day, his impact was felt at all times.
