Ranking the Raiders’ top-5 Quarterbacks in franchise history

1. player. 28. . . . Ken Stabler

Has any player personified the Raiders better than Ken Stabler? A wild man both on and off the field, Stabler is one of the NFL’s most iconic figures. His list of accomplishments and memorable moments is lengthy. In fact, his first big moment in the NFL came when he relieved a sick Daryle Lamonica in a 1972 playoff game against the Steelers. Known now as the “Immaculate Reception” game, Stabler did all he could to will the Raiders to victory.

Going forward, Stabler engineered the offense for some of the finest teams in franchise history. Facilitating the ball to future Hall of Famers such as Dave Casper, Cliff Branch, and Fred Biletnikoff, Stabler was a four-time Pro Bowl selection, an All-Pro, and was named the NFL MVP in 1974.

His finest moment as a Raider came in 1977. Playing for legendary head coach John Madden, Stabler led the Raiders to their first Super Bowl victory over the Vikings.

While Stabler’s teams would never return to the Super Bowl, he would finish his ten-year Raiders career with a record of 69-26-1. His 19,078 passing yards and 150 touchdown passes were both the best in team history when he retired as well. While Stabler would pass away in 2015, he was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.

An undeniable icon in the history of the franchise, Stablers’ winning ways has kept him atop this list for the foreseeable future.
