Raiders: 3 edge-of-the-roster players to keep an eye on
Amik Robertson
Amik Robertson’s career with the Raiders has been sort of a roller coaster. When the Raiders drafted him in the 4th round of the 2020 draft, many draft pundits and fans alike were excited and bullish about Robertson’s future. They saw him as an ideal slot corner who was feisty despite his lack of size.
Robertson made the team as a rookie but saw very little time, but when he did it was not good. The Raiders then drafted Nate Hobbs as the slot cornerback and he became one of the best in the NFL. Robertson transitioned back outside but continued to struggle due to inconsistent technique and his lack of size.
Robertson was quickly dismissed by the old coaching staff and likely would have been cut if they were still around. The new coaching staff has given Robertson life and he has taken some first-team reps at outside cornerback during minicamp.
He also has been a good special teams player, which could be his path to the roster. Robertson is still likely behind starters Rock Ya-Sin and Trayvon Mullen, as well as free-agent additions Anthony Averett and Darius Phillips. However, there could still be room for Robertson if he made big improvements over the offseason.
