What does Hunter Renfrow being extended mean for the Las Vegas Raiders?

Details of Renfrow’s new contract, and what it means for the future.

The news of Hunter Renfrow’s extension broke Monday morning, following a press conference from the fourth-year Raider earlier in the week. The new deal is a two-year agreement, with a maximum value of $32M ($21M guaranteed).

By all measures, this is a team-friendly deal. Crosby, Adams, and Carr signed their extensions making sure there was enough food left for Renfrow and Waller to eat as well, and presumably, Renfrow followed suit making sure there was something for Waller.

At max value, this makes Renfrow the 19th highest paid receiver in the league, with the 26th most total guaranteed money.

Over the last two years, the organization has begun to shift from a reloading point of attack to a rebuild where the process is being trusted. This began last season when the Raiders resigned Kolton Miller, marking the first time the Silver and Black gave a first-round pick a second contract since Darren McFadden’s one-year extension in the 2014 off-season.

Between ’15-’20, the Raiders handed out three second contracts [via extension] to players drafted by the team. This year alone, the new regime in Las Vegas matched that number, even surpassing it had this been Derek Carr’s second contract, as opposed to his third.

As it stands, Renfrow’s extension is a short one, only lasting two extra seasons. When the time comes, both sides will look to negotiate once more, but it would take a miracle for Las Vegas to get a deal so team-friendly twice in a row.

Enough about the contract, though. Let’s get to why Hunter Renfrow is worth every penny of this deal, and then some.
