Raiders: 3 players ready to take a leap forward in 2022
Tre’Von Moehrig
Heading into the 2021 NFL Draft, Trevon Moehrig was seen as the best safety in the draft and a first-round pick. However, an injury scared many teams away and he fell to the second round where the Raiders traded up for him.
Moehrig went on to quiet the doubters and played nearly every snap for the Raiders and showed his unique, centerfield-like safety player, and was an impactful upgrade to the safety room. Moehrig now has a full season under his belt and could wind up being even more impactful under Graham.
Moehrig will no longer simply be a centerfielder, instead, he will be used as a playmaker and he has all of the skills to develop into a star.
The Raiders had a solid secondary in 2021, but they had no stars. They had no ball hawks who could take away the ball and make big plays. Moehrig has the profile to do that. Both Hobbs and Moehrig could be those players.
Moehrig will be put in a position to make plays and he should be able to. He had several plays in 2021 where he could have made an impactful play but was just a second late. A full offseason of work and the NFL game slowing down for Moehrig can make him a Pro Bowler. If Moehrig can be paired with a solid safety who can also cover, it could allow him to star.
