Raiders: Josh McDaniels has a tremendous Coach of the Year opportunity
McDaniels is in a great spot
This is what allows Josh McDaniels to prove many wrong and lead the Raiders to ground they have not covered in nearly two decades. McDaniels was brought in to completely change the culture, which was basically non-existent and undisciplined in the years under Jon Gruden.
His offensive genius will be put on full display, and although quarterback Derek Carr had one of his best seasons last season statistically, the lack of red zone touchdowns was concerning, and this is where McDaniels comes into play.
An offense that already had Carr, wide receiver Hunter Renfrow and star tight end, Darren Waller, just got even more dangerous by adding one of the top receivers in the league in Davante Adams. By adding running back Zamir “Zeus” White via the 2022 NFL Draft into the mix, this offense is going to look very different from a season ago.
McDaniels is tasked with injecting more scoring into an offense that is more than capable of reaching this status, and this could be the difference between being an elite team in 2022, as opposed to being a solid one.
The offensive mind of McDaniels is something the Raiders have not possessed in quite some time in a head coach. Jon Gruden’s playbook was stale and dated, and it showed last season as the Raiders had a rough time finding the end zone, and the same could be said for interim head coach Rich Bisaccia, who did overcome the unthinkable by getting the Raiders into the playoffs, but also struggled with play-calling in the red zone.
