QB2: Nick Mullens

While there’s absolutely no battle for the starting quarterback role, there is a fight for QB2; Nick Mullens, or Jarrett Stidham.

Career-wise, Mullens has the advantage, and by a lot – Unfortunately, no fanbase knows this better than Raider Nation. In a 2018 contest that pinned the 49ers against the then-Oakland Raiders, Mullens would take the field as a starting quarterback for the first time, tossing 3 touchdowns with 0 turnovers on the way to a 34-3 win for San Francisco.

Stidham, on the other hand, has yet to thrown 3 touchdowns over the course of a season. Still, there’s a huge advantage the ex-Patriot has over Mullens: Stidham knows Mcdaniels’ system well.

This may be trivial in Raider Nation’s eyes, but you can bet head coach Josh McDaniels holds that in high regard – After all, the Raiders valued this so much, they gave up a draft pick to pry him from McDaniels’ former team. Is this enough for the quarterback who’s thrown 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions over his career to edge out Mullens? Truthfully, I doubt it, but it does mean Stidham is right in the mix.
