Raiders: Ranking every season of Derek Carr’s career

. 2020. 4. player. 28. .

Despite the collapse in 2019 that caused the team to miss the playoffs, the Raiders entered 2020 with optimism. With Carr fresh off one of his better seasons and the additions of Henry Ruggs and Nelson Agholor, the team seemed poised to do big things. During the first year in Las Vegas, the team started 2-2 before a pivotal meeting in Arrowhead with the Chiefs.

It was here where Carr was able to exercise some demons as he had never won in Arrowhead. Kansas City, who was 4-0 at the time, had no answer for Carr and the offense as he recorded 347 yards and three touchdowns to defeat Mahomes and company. He would finish the season with a then-career-high 4,103 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and just nine interceptions.

Despite quality play from Carr, the defense would let the team down often in 2020. Sitting at 6-3 following week ten, Las Vegas seemed poised for the playoffs. Instead, they would go 2-5 down the stretch and narrowly miss out. Three of those losses were by four points or less.

After this season, many agreed Carr should stay as the Raiders quarterback despite the discussion of the last few seasons. He had clearly mastered Gruden’s offense and did all he could to keep the Raiders in contention. The offense simply could not overcome the deficiencies of the defense.
