Las Vegas Raiders 2022 opponent offseason review: Houston Texans
Offensive Changes
The Houston Texans did not have many changes on the offensive side at all. Most of the players that they signed in 2022 were on the team in 2021. They signed Wide Receiver Brandin Cooks to a two-year extension after he put up huge numbers despite instability at the quarterback position.
Cooks played in and started 16 games for the Texans last season finishing with over 1,000 yards on 90 receptions and six touchdowns catching passes from both Tyrod Taylor and rookie Davis Mills.
Houston has committed to Mills as the starting quarterback at least for next season by neither signing nor drafting any real competition for him, only re-signing Jeff Driskel and bringing in Kyle Allen from Washington to compete for the backup job.
One of the only outside offensive free agents the Texans did bring in was offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi, who spent time last season with both the Baltimore Ravens and the Seattle Seahawks. One name the Texans re-signed should be familiar to Raiders fans is center Jimmy Morrissey, who was a Las Vegas Raiders seventh-round draft pick last year.
The Texans did make a couple of solid picks that will help their offense going forward picking Offensive Guard Kenyon Green in the first round and Wide Receiver John Metchie III in the second round.
Metchie is yet another talented wide receiver to come out of Alabama in recent years. He would’ve been another first-round pick at that position this year but unfortunately for him, he tore his ACL in the SEC Championship game against the Georgia Bulldogs and hurt his draft stock.
Kenyon Green was an elite guard at the college level at Texas A&M and was a two-time All-American and a finalist for the Lombardi Award last season in 2021. Green, unlike Metchie, should be contributing to the Texans as soon as Week 1.
