3 reasons the Las Vegas Raiders need to trade for Jessie Bates

Abram is a liability

Since being drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Johnathan Abram has been an interesting player for the Raiders. While he has had his moments where you think he could be a long-term answer for this Las Vegas defense, his inconsistent play far outweighs any positives he has shown on the field.

In fact, the Raiders declined his fifth-year option heading into this season, so without a strong 2022 campaign, Abram is likely done in the desert. That is what makes trading for Jessie Bates so important, as right now, Abram is a bit of a liability, and Las Vegas cannot go into the 2022 season with issues in the secondary.

Abram has his moments and would be an excellent box safety, but having him be the starter alongside Tre’Von Moehrig may end up hurting Las Vegas this season. Who knows, maybe he can flourish with a new defensive coordinator in town, but from what we have seen through three NFL seasons, I would not count on it.
