Josh Jacobs will lead the running game in a “prove it” year after the new regime in Vegas opted to decline the option on his contract. Behind Jacobs on the depth chart will be Kenyan Drake, who is expected to be used prominently in the passing attack after catching 30 passes for 291 yards and a touchdown, before suffering a torn ACL.

That leaves the veteran Brandon Bolden battling it out with fourth-round pick Zamir White for the third-string job.

McDaniels has a track record of using a running back by committee approach in his days with the New England Patriots, and Bolden spent eight seasons in the Patriots’ system. That being said, White at age 22 brings a boost of youth to a position that sees the most contact. While Bolden has appeared in 131 of 145 total possible games he is 32 years old.

There is a likelihood that McDaniels and Ziegler could opt for keeping four running backs on the roster and giving snaps to each based on strengths. But make no mistake that White was drafted to see snaps in year one and he could force Bolden off the roster before Week 1.
