Raiders 2022 Training Camp: One question for each unit on offense
Offensive line: What’s the line looking like without Denzelle Good?
At this point, it seems almost certain Lester Cotton will be the team’s right guard. Kolton Miller will be the left tackle and Andre James will start at center. That leaves an additional guard spot and battle at right tackle. Sampson and Parham are fighting it out for left guard, and right tackle is wide open.
On Saturday, from left to right, the offensive line used was Miller, Sampson, James, Cotton, and Parker. Parker has been splitting snaps with Leatherwood, although some in the Raiders’ media fear Leatherwood is slipping further from the job. I don’t share that same fear yet, although it’s evident Parker is a serious candidate for the job and has been since the Raiders decided to make him the 18th-highest paid right tackle.
Thayer Munford was also able to rotate in a bit as the team’s starting right tackle on Saturday, and Eluemunor has excelled in camp at tackle. There are many RT options at the Silver and Black’s disposal, and it appears McDaniels is seeing what he has in each player. While Leatherwood and Parker are the front runners, others are presenting their cases.
When it comes to who will be replacing Denzelle Good, the answer seems to be Lester Cotton.
Of all the favorites to start on the offensive line heading into camp, Cotton was as under-the-radar as it gets. Not many of Raider Nation expected much from Cotton last week if they even remembered was rostered, let alone predict he would be in a prime spot to start in 2022.
Derek Carr gave his thoughts on Cotton, recalling a moment the two had during camp. “I told him when we were walking to the car the other day that I am so proud of him”, the veteran quarterback stated.
Josh McDaniels had his own words on the Raiders’ guard, going into more detail.
"“The Lester Cotton that I know from this offseason and now going into training camp, he just works hard. He’s been in condition. He’s gotten stronger. He did a tremendous job in our offseason program”"
The Las Vegas Raiders have had an interesting training camp so far, and these three players could go from sleepers to starters.
The Raiders seem to be set with their LT, C, and RG. The other two positions remain a fight for the job heading into the preseason.
