Raiders who saw their stock increase in Canton against Jacksonville.

Alex Leatherwood

Alex Leatherwood is fighting for the starting right tackle job, and just as the Raiders’ first depth chart of 2022 suggested, he earned the nod at right tackle on Thursday.

Leatherwood is battling Brandon Parker for the right tackle spot, and while Leatherwood was named the starter at this position against Jacksonville, Parker still started at tackle, just on the left side.

The real reason Leatherwood’s stock increased after this contest isn’t due to the second-year Raider playing lights out – Granted he didn’t play particularly bad either – but rather because his main competitor, Brandon Parker, had a horrific showing. The Raiders let up five sacks on Thursday, and Parker was single handedly responsible for three of them.

Even as early as the first play of the game from scrimmage, Parker was beat by first-overall pick Travon Walker, forcing Stidham to get rid of the ball early. Eventually, Walker was able to get to the quarterback after beating Parker, as seen below.

One preseason matchup isn’t going to decide anything, but it definitely helped give Leatherwood the advantage on the right side. The battle will rage on, but for now, the Alabama alum has a massive one-up on Parker moving forward.

As for Parker playing on the left side, don’t worry Raider Nation; Kolton Miller was simply one of the veterans who didn’t take the field.
