Running Back Room
Josh Jacobs playing during the Hall of Fame game shows that the new regime will emphasize a running back by committee approach. Jacobs will likely still start, but Kenyan Drake also took carries and Zamir White was one of the stars of the game.
Those 3 along with Brandon Bolden seem to be locked in as the teams top backs, but Austin Walter and Ameer Abdullah were both intriguing and Brittain Brown will likely earn some carries later in the preseason.
Walter specifically looked very good. Walter was signed when Brown and White were hurt and immediately jumped in and looked explosive. Walter played for the Jets in 2021 and had some games where he took carries and got experience.
Walter has the highest yards per carry on Thursday and it will be interesting to see if he or Brown could push for Drake’s roster spot. Nonetheless, Walter and Brown look like they can now be in a real competition for the practice squad running back job.
