Raiders 2022 preseason: Surprise cut candidates after game No. 2

Clelin Ferrell

Clelin Ferrell, the 4th overall pick in 2019, largely considered a bust, has been on the roster bubble for the last two seasons. The previous regime soured on him quickly and he finally had a chance to prove himself again in a system that better suited his skillset.

Ferrell is a better fit as a 3-4 defensive end who should have more opportunities being flanked by Maxx Crosby, Chandler Jones, and Bilal Nichols, but Ferrell hasn’t practiced in weeks. Ferrell needed this preseason to prove he was a player who had a role in this new system but he can’t seem to get on the field.

Ferrell is likely in his final season as a Raider unless he becomes a dominant force on the interior this season. Cutting Ferrell comes with a $10 million dead cap and it looks more and more likely that the Raiders will be eating that since they cannot count on Ferrell to even see the field.

He finally had a chance to save his career and injuries are getting the best of him. It will be interesting to see if the Raiders would rather hold onto him for the pricetag and give him the regular season to prove himself.
