Las Vegas Raiders who could sneak onto the 2022 roster
Luke Masterson is another undrafted free agent who is making an impression on the Raiders coaching staff. Masterson had a slow start to camp and has been competing with Darien Butler for a roster spot. Masterson is a converted college safety who is very clearly still learning the system.
Masterson looked good in coverage and is kind of the player that the former coaching staff was hoping Tanner Muse would become.
Masterson started ahead of Butler in the preseason game against the Vikings, likely for the coaching staff to get a better look at him. Butler is likely going to make the roster, but Masterson could push veteran Kenny Young for a roster spot.
Masterson’s weaknesses come in the run game and he is likely a player that needs to get stronger. A year on the practice squad could benefit Masterson greatly, but there is a chance that his special teams abilities will notch him a roster spot, much like Butler.
