Raiders at Dolphins: 2022 preseason game No. 3 takeaways

Jarrett Stidham is the QB2 in Las Vegas

Point blank, period. Stidham is the immediate backup to Derek Carr.

The offensive line struggled once again on Saturday, but Stidham made the most of it. The first-year Raider went 7-for-10 when slinging the ball, piling up 80 yards. Mullens, on the other hand, struggled against the pressure.

The 66% completion from Mullens in the stat column is nice, but the film was hard to watch at times. Not only did the veteran quarterback tally under 40 yards on 6 completions, but he held onto the ball far too long, often times resulting in a sack. Stidham had a better day both physically and mentally, as he stayed calm against pressure and made things happen on the field.

During the first and second drives of each Raiders’ preseason game, Stidham has driven the team deep into enemy territory on all but one drive. There’s no denying the success of Stidham – without Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow, and against a majority of starters each week.
