Potential cuts to watch for following Raiders final 2022 preseason win
Raiders Cut No. 1 – Chase Garbers, Quarterback
Chase Garbers had some notable moments during the preseason. For the most part, it was enjoyable to watch him play. However, his opportunities were few and far in between. In the game versus the Minnesota Vikings, Garbers had just three passing attempts, though he did complete two of them. Thanks to Garbers, DJ Turner actually had one of his highlight receptions.
Once the Raiders traded away veteran signal-caller Nick Mullens, it was evident that Jarrett Stidham was going to be Derek Carr’s backup. Frankly, Stidham had an advantage from the start because he already knew McDaniels’ system from their time together in New England. On top of that, McDaniels thinks Stidham is still growing and hasn’t even come close to reaching his full potential.
Garbers, in his defense, displayed an ability to make things happen with his legs. Regrettably, his downfall proved to be his handling of the ball. Simply put, he held on to it for too long. He still has upside, so that’s worth mentioning because he’ll remain a project for McDaniels. Though he’ll likely stay on the practice squad, don’t expect to see Garbers in an NFL game anytime soon.
