Las Vegas Raiders lose in Week 1, but what does it all mean?

The Las Vegas Raiders start the 2022 NFL season 0-1. What does it mean, exactly?

What a beautiful day it was. We all woke up with one thing on our minds; football. Sunday football. All day, from morning to afternoon. A.J. Brown’s first official game as an Eagle. Baker Mayfield facing off against his former Cleveland Browns team. And, of course, Davante Adams taking the field for the first time as a member of the Las Vegas Raiders.

What started out as a day in heaven quickly morphed into a date with misery for Raider Nation.

The Silver and Black traveled to Los Angeles to square off against their AFC West rivals in a week 1 bout. SoFi was filled with a good mix of fans; some representing their home team, and others there to cheer for Las Vegas.

The ball was kicked from the tee, and all eyes were glued to the field.

Los Angeles marched their way into Raider territory on the game’s first drive, hitting a field goal to put up the first points of the contest. Soon, it was Las Vegas’ turn to possess the football. Like the Chargers, they too drove into enemy territory but were stopped on third down. After a pair of punts, the first quarter ended with a 3-3 score.

The Chargers would score the first touchdown of the game in the second quarter, taking a 10-3 lead. Las Vegas was able to keep up with their rival on the first and second drives of this contest but were unable to duplicate a drive ending in six. In fact, it wouldn’t be until the second half when the Raiders would get into the end zone. By then, L.A. had already crossed the plane on two separate occasions.

By the game’s end, Derek Carr had thrown three interceptions and been taken to the ground six times. The silver lining? Despite all this, Las Vegas only lost by one possession, walking away with a 24-19 loss.

Now, with a 0-1 start to their ’22 campaign, the Raiders must work to fix what went wrong as the team gathers takeaways from their week 1 loss. Just like the Silver and Black, we too will be reviewing takeaways from this contest.
