Las Vegas Raiders X-Factors against the Titans in 2022 Week 3
Stay aggressive, on both sides of the ball
With two weeks of football in the books, it’s largely been the same theme for Las Vegas: a tale of two halves. Against the Chargers in Week 1, the Raiders started out slow only to turn things around in the second half, with a chance to steal a win in the final minutes. Last week against the Cardinals the Silver and Black took a 20-0 lead into halftime, only to see their momentum ground to a halt onward to a 29-23 loss.
Staying aggressive and keeping the foot on the pedal is essential to avoid an 0-3 start, and that speaks true for both sides of the ball.
Against the Cardinals it was pretty evident, Carr had targeted seven different receivers through the first half as the Raiders’ 20-point lead illustrated how superior of a team they were over Arizona. Yet in the second half, it seemed like McDaniels opted to play “not to lose,” and yet even that wasn’t successful.
They strayed away from the ground game and opted for the short check-down plays, but those incompletions failed to kill time off the clock.
On defense, Patrick Graham could have been less soft in his coverage in order to at least make it a bit more tougher for Kyler Murray to scramble his way to the endzone. Murray’s mobility makes him tough to shadow, but if Graham were to rush more than four then it would at least take away some of those rushing lanes that Murray exploited.
The loss to the Cardinals by no means falls on the shoulders of the defense, but they along with the offense need to remain aggressive from start to finish. If Week 2 showed anything, it’s that no lead is safe in the NFL.
