Las Vegas Raiders X-Factors against the Chiefs in 2022 Week 5

Win the turnover battle

The recipe to beating the Chiefs isn’t necessarily a secret: keep the ball out of Patrick Mahomes’ hands and look to put six points on the board on every offensive possession. It’s easier said than done though, and the Raiders offense could surely use a helping hand if they’re given a favorable starting field position.

The best way to keep the ball out of Mahomes’ hands and give the offense a head start is for the Raiders’ defense to capitalize on turnovers. Takeaways can truly swing the momentum in your favor, and we saw that last week as Amik Robertson returned a Denver Broncos fumble for an easy six points. The same formula worked back in Week 5 of the 2020 season when the Raiders handed the Chiefs their first loss in a 40-32 win, at Arrowhead no less.

Las Vegas picked off Mahomes just once on that day in 2020, but they also brought him down three times, which helped send Kansas City’s offense to the sideline early. The Raiders are second-to-last this season in takeaways per game (0.8), but one or two key stops will be essential in allowing the Raiders to capitalize and put points on the board early.
