Las Vegas Raiders at Chiefs 2022 Week 5: Bold Predictions
Carr throws for more passing yards and TDs than Mahomes
The Raiders were thoroughly outplayed last season by the Chiefs, who easily swept the season series. But back in 2020, Las Vegas split the two games between these rivals and the Raiders actually beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, 40-32, to hand Kansas City their first loss of the season. It was another example of the Silver and Black choosing to play up to their competition, and it was led by a spectacular performance from their quarterback.
For all the chatter that is said about Patrick Mahomes as the top-tier quarterback in the division, Derek Carr actually outdueled Mahomes in that 40-32 win. Mahomes finished with 340 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, and was sacked three times for a quarterback rating of 83.5. Carr, on the other hand, totaled 347 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, and was sacked just once for a quarterback rating of 126.7.
Carr has heard as much noise about Mahomes being better than him as he had about his inconsistent play at Arrowhead, namely in the colder weather. But on this day in 2020, Carr outdueled his rival and proved that he’s capable of rising to the challenge.
With some added motivation (plus a do-or-die scenario to keep this season alive), we’re picking Carr to be the better quarterback on Monday night. He’ll finish with more passing yards, touchdowns, and fewer turnovers than Mahomes by the final whistle.
