Offensive Line

It was a Jekyll and Hyde performance for the Raiders’ offensive line against the Chiefs’ defensive front.

They have started a different lineman combination in all five games, so the chemistry is nowhere near perfect. They had a chop block that killed this first drive and a bad block in the back by Jermaine Eluemunor on the second drive. Thayer Munford also had a holding penalty.

The pass protection, in general, was not good, and they must find answers because Carr can’t avoid it forever. Seven QB hits allowed and two sacks were the best outcome for the Raiders on Monday. It could have been much worse, including a strip sack waived off by a flag.

Now, as bad as the Raiders appeared in pass protection, they were the opposite regarding run blocking. They were firing off the ball, moving the Chiefs’ defensive front consistently, and opening plenty of holes for Jacobs to take advantage of.

The ability to work well in the run game without much continuity was impressive, but the holes in pass protection are putting Carr in danger and must improve.
