Most disappointing Las Vegas Raiders so far in 2022
Hunter Renfrow
Key 2022 Stats
- 3 Fumbles
- 14 Targets
- 7.5 Yards Per Reception
Most Raiders fans probably didn’t see this one coming. All offseason, we read about how Renfrow was going to flourish under McDaniels. He was going to be Wes Welker 2.0 if I recall correctly. Regrettably, it appears Renfrow is regressing, whether he was concussed or not.
Obviously, missing critical time hurt him statistically. So far, in three appearances, Derek Carr has targeted him 14 times. Because of his injury, it’d be unfair to compare these numbers to last season. Even so, when Renfrow has been on the field, he’s been more of a detriment.
Yes, it’s a harsh assessment, no doubt. Nevertheless, Renfrow’s ball security issues have risen big time in 2022. Three fumbles in three games from your supposed No. 2 receiver is quite alarming. Then, you have Monday Night Football. The mix-up with Davante Adams cost the Raiders the game. Though McDaniels was quick to defend both Renfrow and Adams after the game,
"“Certainly, they weren’t running the same route. They were running different routes. I thought that the Chiefs did a decent job of trying to get some hands on and disrupt us a little bit at the line of scrimmage with [Davante] Tae [Adams], which kind of put them a little bit in the same area. So, just not good enough execution at that point in time for a play obviously that we needed it.”"
While McDaniels blames execution, it’s clear something’s off this year with Renfrow. The addition of Adams was obviously going to affect Renfrow’s targets. We all knew that going in. Regardless, fans are certainly disappointed in the man once known as “Third and Renfrow.”
